Manchester United are preparing for their Champions League return after an impressive turnaround under Michael Carrick last season.
The Red Devils finished third in the Premier League with 71 points after producing a remarkable second half of the campaign.
Moreover, United became the league’s highest-scoring and best-performing side after January 1 as Carrick transformed their fortunes.
Bruno Fernandes played a major role in that resurgence, setting a new Premier League single-season record with 21 assists.
Meanwhile, United have continued reshaping their squad during the summer transfer window ahead of another demanding campaign.
Andrey Santos arrived from Chelsea for £50M, while Youri Tielemans and experienced goalkeeper Karl Darlow also strengthened Carrick’s options.
Furthermore, United completed a move for 18-year-old winger Tynan Thompson from Tottenham Hotspur for a fee potentially reaching €9.4M.
However, the Red Devils remain active in the market and have now shown interest in strengthening another area of their squad.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Manchester United have emerged as a potential destination for Bologna centre-back Jhon Lucumi.
The Colombian defender could leave the Serie A club this summer, with Juventus also showing strong interest in securing his signature.
The report claims Carrick’s side could soon make a major offer for the 28-year-old defender.
Lucumi made 29 Serie A appearances last season and also featured 10 times in the Europa League for Bologna.
Additionally, he started all five of Colombia’s matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup before their elimination against Switzerland.
His Bologna contract expires in 2027, while his €28M release clause expired on July 15. Therefore, Bologna could now consider a suitable offer.
However, no formal offer has arrived yet, meaning Bologna would also be happy to keep Lucumi if a transfer does not materialise.
For now, Manchester United’s emergence adds another serious contender to the race as they continue exploring further reinforcements this summer.
