It has been a difficult time at Manchester United for goalkeeper André Onana.
Since joining in the summer of 2023, he has endured a tough spell.
With several high-profile mistakes, some Man United fans want their goalkeeper to be replaced after a difficult season all round for the club.
When David De Gea was replaced as Man United goalkeeper, they thought they had found a worthwhile replacement in Onana.
After all, he was part of a Inter Milan team that reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2023.
Despite the 1-0 loss in the final, he gave a good account of himself throughout the tournament.
Having previously worked under manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, there was a lot of hope when Man United’s £43.8 million bid was accepted.
However, the two years that have followed have been glittered with errors.
Champions League games against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray early on into his time as the club’s goalkeeper set fans into panic mode.
The mistakes continued into the 2024/25 season; a campaign that saw ten Hag lose his job in October.
He is yet to convince the fanbase and it appears that the club have now given up on him.
Manchester United TARGET £40 million Serie A goalkeeper
It has been reported that United are targeting Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi.
Aged 24, Carnesecchi is being lined up for a fee of £40 million.
Onana’s future is far from certain.
Now playing for a manager who did not sign him and his form not picking up, it would not be a shock to see the Cameroon international sold.
Carnesecchi had made 61 Serie A appearances in the past two seasons for Atalanta and could now be set for a spell in the Premier League.
