Manchester United are not done reshaping their goalkeeper options. Senne Lammens arrived late in the summer. But now, another addition could follow in 2026.
Ruben Amorim wants to part ways with both Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana next summer. With plans already forming for the next season, United are eyeing a new number one.
According to talkSPORT, the club is watching a top-tier option from Serie A.
Amorim knows that signing Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on deadline day is not enough.
That move led to Andre Onana leaving on loan. The Cameroon international is now spending the season at Trabzonspor.
Altay Bayindir is currently first choice under Ruben Amorim. But reports suggest the Turkish keeper is expected to leave next summer.
That leaves a gap to fill. And that is why Manchester United are eyeing move for the AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
The 30-year-old is out of contract next summer. United are keeping close tabs on the situation.
Maignan began his career at PSG but never made a senior appearance. He made his breakthrough at Lille.
Over six seasons, he played 180 games, kept 65 clean sheets, and won the Ligue 1 title in 2020–21.
He moved to Milan and lifted the Serie A title in his first year. He has made 168 appearances for the Italian club, recording 63 clean sheets.
The French goalkeeper’s form has dipped in recent years, but the experience remains. Maignan is calm on the ball. He is known for his passing and quick decisions off the line.
Maignan would be available for free next summer. That alone makes him a serious option. But there are doubts as well. United may need more than just composure.
They need a top shot-stopper to fit Amorim’s system and offer security in key moments. That is why the name of Emiliano Martinez should come up next season as well.
Still, a free transfer for a proven keeper is hard to ignore. That is why Manchester United will be watching Maignan’s situation closely.
