Manchester United wanted to make a move late in the January market to hijack a deal.

Transfer Update - Manchester United

Manchester United made a late attempt to hijack one of the high-profile deals in the January transfer market. However, they were too late to make the move.

Towards the end of last year, it seemed United had given up on their quest to qualify for the Champions League.

After they sacked Ruben Amorim, it seems that the Red Devils are just looking to get through the season. That is why they appointed Michael Carrick as an interim manager.

However, since the Manchester United legend took charge of the club, he has completely changed the mood. In his first game back in charge, he defeated Manchester City at Old Trafford.

After that, he took United to the Emirates and defeated the Premier League leaders Arsenal for the first time this season at their home.

So, the Manchester United board are once again dreaming of playing in the Champions League with their team sitting in fourth place in the table.

That is why they wanted to make a move late in the January market to hijack a deal. Liverpool and Chelsea were already in advanced talks.

Now, according to Florian Plettenberg on X, Manchester United wanted to hijack the Jeremy Jacquet to Liverpool deal. However, they were too late to make the move.

The reason they failed was the agreement between Jacquet and Liverpool. So, the Reds agreed on a deal with Rennes, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.

Now, it will be interesting to see whether Manchester United can sign a player on the last day of the transfer market.
