Last weekend, Olympique Marseille’s Ligue 1 campaign got off to the worst possible start.
They conceded in stoppage time to lose 1-0 away to Rennes in the league’s curtain raiser.
This was despite their hosts having ten men for an hour of the game.
Marseille are seen as one of the “best in the rest” in France, and one of the sides most likely to challenge PSG.
So to kick things off with a defeat must be incredibly infuriating.
Well, things have got worse since without even playing a game.
L’Equipe reported that after the game, Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe had a physical consultation.
They state it was “difficult” for sporting director Medhi Benatia to separate the two players.
As a result of this, the club have confirmed that both players are immediately available for sale.
Both players have previous when it comes to their conduct.
Some will remember Rabiot “taking himself off” France’s standby squad for the 2018 World Cup.
He was so insulted to not be in the main squad, he refused to be left on standby.
Meanwhile, many Norwich City fans were angry at how Rowe kicked up a fuss last summer.
He refused to play when linked with Marseille, a deal that soon went through.
It will be interesting to see where both players go now.
In a World Cup year, you’d imagine Rabiot will be conscious of his next move.
Perhaps less so for Rowe, but he did score the winner to secure the U21 Euros for England in the summer.
So, you never know.
