Mason Greenwood has signed for Turkish giants Fenerbahce. Marseille will receive an initial €39.5 million for the forward, while the agreement also includes a further €5 million championship bonus.
Greenwood will earn €10 million per season under his new contract in Istanbul, making him one of the highest-paid players in Turkish football.
The move represents one of the biggest transfers in Fenerbahce’s history.
The Turkish giants entered the summer determined to finally end their long wait for another league title after finishing behind Galatasaray for a fifth consecutive season.
That disappointment triggered major changes at the club. Fenerbahce brought back club legend Ismail Kartal for a fourth spell as manager. And, they immediately backed him in the transfer market.
The club already strengthened several areas of the squad this summer. Nathan Ake arrived from Manchester City to reinforce the defence, while Vedat Muriqi returned to bolster the attack.
Fenerbahce also invested heavily in young striker Sidiki Cherif and sanctioned the departure of Youssef En-Nesyri to Al Ittihad.
However, Greenwood quickly emerged as their marquee target. The 24-year-old arrives in Turkey after rebuilding his career in France with Marseille.
Greenwood scored 48 goals and registered 17 assists in 81 appearances across two seasons for the Ligue 1 side.
His performances re-established him as one of Europe’s most productive forwards and attracted interest from several clubs across the continent.
Fenerbahce eventually won the race for his signature after reaching an agreement with Marseille and finalising personal terms with the player.
According to journalist Sercan Hamzaoglu, the deal has now been completed and Greenwood will officially continue his career in the Super Lig.
Fenerbahce hope the English forward can become the player who finally helps deliver the league title back to the club.
