The summer window always brings unexpected turns, but few would have seen this one coming.

After weeks of talks and mounting speculation, a highly rated Spanish midfielder has taken matters into his own hands putting a major Premier League club on hold for something he believes is worth waiting for.

At just 26, Martin Zubimendi has grown into one of the most respected midfielders in Spain.

With calmness on the ball, sharp decision-making, and a deep understanding of the game, he has long drawn comparisons to Rodri and Sergio Busquets.

Several clubs have kept tabs on his development, but one seemed closer than all the rest.

Arsenal were seen as clear front-runners. The Gunners had shown strong interest and were ready to activate the midfielder’s €60 million release clause.

But the Real Sociedad man, after deep thought, started having doubts about the move.

The lack of trophies and uncertainty about Arsenal’s long-term plan raised questions in his mind.

Now, according to DefensaCentral, those questions have turned into a firm decision.

Martín Zubimendi has cancelled his move to Arsenal. He is choosing to wait for Real Madrid to make their move.

Sources close to the player say he believes in the Madrid project and hopes that his strong connection with Xabi Alonso, his former youth coach at Sociedad, will play a key role.

Alonso is reportedly keen to bring him in, seeing Zubimendi as a vital piece in reshaping Real Madrid’s midfield for the future.

The Spanish giants are hoping to negotiate a deal below his clause, counting on the player’s desire and his long-standing service to Sociedad to push the deal through.

With Arsenal out of the picture, Real Madrid now have a clear path to land Martin Zubimendi but they will need to act fast before another club steps in.
