Mason Greenwood rebuilt his career in France after leaving Manchester United and quickly established himself as one of Marseille’s most important attacking players.
The forward enjoyed another productive campaign in Ligue 1, although criticism over some performances continued to follow him throughout the season.
Despite the scrutiny, Greenwood finished his second year in France with an impressive return of 26 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions.
Those numbers helped attract fresh interest ahead of the summer transfer window, even after the striker publicly expressed his desire to remain at Marseille.
The French club also remain in a strong negotiating position. Greenwood’s current contract runs until June 2029, allowing Marseille to demand a significant transfer fee from any interested side.
However, his future may now be heading in a different direction after fresh developments emerged from Turkey.
According to L’Equipe, Fenerbahce have reached an agreement over personal terms with Greenwood as the Turkish giants push to complete a surprise transfer.
Although personal terms appear settled, negotiations between the clubs still present a significant obstacle.
Fenerbahce reportedly value Greenwood at around £26 million. However, Marseille are believed to want between £43 million and £47 million before considering a sale.
The Turkish side are not the only club monitoring the situation. Roma, Atletico Madrid and Al-Hilal have also received links with Greenwood as speculation surrounding his future continues to grow.
Greenwood last featured for Manchester United in January 2022. After a controversial period, he left the club and spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Getafe.
After that, he completed a permanent move to Marseille in a deal worth £27 million. United also included a massive sell-on clause in that deal.
So, if Mason Greenwood leaves Marseille this summer, Manchester United will get a significant boost in their transfer budget.
