Michael Carrick has addressed growing uncertainty surrounding Marcus Rashford’s future.
The Manchester United boss was asked directly about the possibility of the forward returning next summer. However, he stopped short of giving a clear answer.
Rashford is currently on loan at Barcelona. The Spanish club hold an option to sign him permanently for £26 million. Meanwhile, doubts remain over whether that option will be triggered.
That leaves the door open for a return to Old Trafford. Rashford is still under contract with United until 2028.
At the same time, financial factors could play a role. His wages would rise again if United qualify for the Champions League.
Carrick has worked closely with Rashford over the years. Their connection dates back to his debut in 2016. However, the United boss chose his words carefully when discussing the situation. He said:
“I just think there’s decisions to be made in time and Marcus is in that situation. But at this point in time, nothing’s been decided.
“And it will be, because it has to be at a certain point, but at this stage, there’s nothing to say”.
That response highlights the uncertainty surrounding the player’s future. Meanwhile, Rashford’s situation has been complicated for some time. He has not played for United since December 2024.
He was later sent out on loan after falling out of favour. At the same time, United have already made changes. His iconic number 10 shirt has been handed to Matheus Cunha.
Barcelona only moved for him after missing out on other attacking targets. That adds further doubt over a permanent deal. Carrick also made it clear that his focus remains on the current squad.
And while nothing has been confirmed, Michael Carrick has not ruled out a return for Marcus Rashford.
