Many Newcastle United fans have stated their wish for the summer transfer window to open.
Whatever happens with the Alexander Isak saga, they just want it done with either way.
That situation has lead to difficulty when it comes to signing a new striker.
They don’t know if they will have Isak money to spend or not.
Eddie Howe’s side have been linked with Jorgen Strand Larsen of Wolves, but they are standing firm.
So it looks like their attention has turned elsewhere.
According to German sources via Craig Hope of The Daily Mail, Newcastle are closing in on a deal to sign Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart
The German international was heavily linked with Bayern Munich this summer, but the Bavarians would not meet their valuation.
Now, it seems as if the forward will be heading to Tyneside.
Despite being 6’6, Woltemade is an incredibly elegant footballer who is excellent with his feet.
Owing to his technical abilities, he has played as a number ten despite his height.
Last season, he scored 12 goals in 28 Bundesliga games, and just 17 starts. He also provided two assists, and created eight big chances.
He also scored in the DFB Pokal final, as Stuttgart won their first trophy since 2007.
Before then scoring six goals and providing two assists at the U21 Euros.
In their opening two games, Newcastle put several threatening crosses into the box, but lacked the finishing touch.
With those sorts of balls into Woltemade, they would have much better fortune, you would imagine.
The likes of Jacob Murphy, Anthony Elanga, Kieran Trippier and Tino Livramento would provide the service.
Furthermore, Woltemade would be able to provide excellent link up and create chances for his fellow attackers.
If Bayern deemed the sum of money too much to pay, we can assume this will be a very expensive signing.
But there’s a good chance he will prove to be worth it.
