Newcastle United were firm favourites to sign Benjamin Sesko after they submitted their second bid of €90 million to RB Leipzig.
Also, there were reports that Sesko might choose Newcastle over Manchester United. But, the Red Devils have turned the tables with a €85 million bid of their own.
With the track record of Newcastle in this transfer window, it looks like the Magpies could lose out on another transfer target.
That is why they are already eyeing alternatives to Benjamin Sesko. They were looking to sign Goncalo Ramos from PSG.
The Portuguese international have fallen out with the PSG manager Luis Enrique and is looking to secure more game time. However, Liverpool have now entered the race to sign Ramos.
The Reds have already beaten Newcastle in a transfer race this summer when they signed Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Also, Liverpool are interested in signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle. So, the Magpies could lose their best player to their rivals, even though Newcastle United are reluctant to do the deal.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United are already short in terms of options in front of goal.
Callum Wilson already left the club after his contract expired and has joined West Ham United on a one-year contract.
So, Newcastle need to replace the English forward as well. That is why they are eyeing a forward who is also a target for Manchester United.
According to The Express, Newcastle United have entered the race to sign Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa. Manchester United are also eyeing a move for the Villa striker.
However, Aston Villa are not looking to sell their star man for cheap. They are looking at a price of around €65 million.
So, if Newcastle fail to land Sesko and keep Isak, they could go for Ollie Watkins, who can be a better replacement for Callum Wilson.
