Newcastle United identify Manchester United target as Bruno Guimaraes replacement

Manchester United’s interest could therefore complicate Newcastle’s plans.

Newcastle United could face another major change in midfield before the summer transfer window closes.

The Magpies have already lost Sandro Tonali after the midfielder completed a £100M move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Meanwhile, uncertainty continues to surround Bruno Guimaraes as Arsenal push to bring the Brazil international to North London.

The 28-year-old remains an important player for Newcastle after scoring nine goals and providing five assists in the Premier League last season.

However, Guimaraes reportedly wants to join Arsenal as he looks to compete for major trophies.

The Gunners have already explored a deal through intermediaries, with their previous proposal reportedly reaching £65M.

Therefore, Newcastle have started preparing for the possibility of losing another key midfielder.

According to CaughtOffside, Newcastle United are intensifying their interest in Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hugo Larsson as a potential replacement for Guimaraes.

The 22-year-old made 34 appearances across all competitions for Frankfurt during the 2025–26 campaign.

Moreover, his performances in Germany have attracted interest from several clubs ahead of a potential summer transfer.

Transfer News Live has reported that Newcastle recognise Guimaraes wants to leave and will not prevent his departure if Arsenal meet their valuation.

However, Newcastle could face significant competition if they decide to accelerate their pursuit of Larsson.

Manchester United are also strongly interested in the Sweden international as they continue rebuilding their midfield.

The Red Devils have already added Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos this summer but could still strengthen the position again.

Meanwhile, Larsson remains under contract with Eintracht Frankfurt until 2029, putting the Bundesliga club in a strong negotiating position.

The German side reportedly value the midfielder at around €50M to €60M.

Manchester United’s interest could therefore complicate Newcastle’s plans, especially if they move quickly for Larsson.

For now, Newcastle are keeping the midfielder firmly on their radar as they prepare for the possibility of Guimaraes joining Arsenal.
