Newcastle United endured a disappointing 2025-26 campaign after finishing 13th in the Premier League. Their domestic struggles contrasted with a respectable Champions League run.
Meanwhile, Eddie Howe’s departure at the end of July signalled the beginning of another major transition at St James’ Park.
The Magpies have responded with a youth-focused rebuild this summer. Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier all departed.
Also, Ross Wilson oversaw the arrivals of Bazoumana Toure, Aladji Bamba, Sean Steur and Lukas Hornicek.
Newcastle are also continuing their preseason preparations before friendlies against Valencia and Everton.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have strengthened their midfield under Michael Carrick after signing Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
The Red Devils are also searching for a specialist left-back, with Patrick Dorgu now viewed internally as part of Carrick’s attacking plans.
That has increased Manchester United’s interest in another Premier League defender before the transfer window closes.
According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle United have decided they will not sell Lewis Hall to Manchester United this summer.
The report states that Hall remains Manchester United’s preferred left-back target and that the England international would welcome a move to Old Trafford.
His representatives have also informed Newcastle of the player’s stance. However, Newcastle have made it clear that Hall is a cornerstone of Matthias Jaissle’s new project.
TEAMtalk claims the Magpies are refusing to discuss any valuation despite reports suggesting the defender is worth around £60 million.
The report adds that Newcastle would only begin reconsidering their position if an offer exceeded £62 million, surpassing the Premier League record fee for a left-back.
Despite Newcastle’s firm stance, Manchester United have not completely abandoned hope.
Newcastle previously adopted similar positions over Alexander Isak, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes before those situations eventually changed.
For now, though, Newcastle remain determined to keep Hall as a fundamental part of Jaissle’s plans.
