Newcastle United are continuing their search for attacking reinforcements after missing out on Victor Munoz.
The Magpies believed they had a deal in place for the Osasuna winger, only for Liverpool to step in and trigger his £34.6 million release clause.
The setback has forced Newcastle to reassess their options as Eddie Howe looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season.
The club are particularly keen to add more quality in attack following Anthony Gordon’s departure to Barcelona.
Newcastle’s recruitment team have been monitoring several players across Europe and now appear ready to accelerate alternative plans.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are showing interest in both Said El Mala and Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
Fernandez-Pardo has been on Newcastle’s radar since May and remains a player they admire. The Lille forward is currently representing Belgium at the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have also maintained their interest in Cologne winger Said El Mala. The 19-year-old enjoyed an impressive season, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists.
El Mala attracted attention from several clubs earlier in the year. Brentford even had a £43 million offer accepted by Cologne before the move collapsed.
The Germany Under-21 international is highly regarded for his pace, dribbling ability and long-range shooting. Newcastle have tracked him for some time and could now step up their pursuit.
However, Liverpool remain a potential threat once again. The report claims the Reds could enter the race for either player if they fail to sign Yan Diomande or Bradley Barcola.
For now, Newcastle are evaluating both options as they continue their search for attacking reinforcements following the disappointment of missing out on Munoz.
