Newcastle United set to battle Manchester United for Chelsea star

Newcastle and Manchester United are both monitoring the situation closely as they search for midfield reinforcements.

Newcastle United and Manchester United have emerged as rivals in the race to sign a Chelsea midfielder this summer.

Both clubs want to strengthen their midfield after making major changes to their squads ahead of the new season.

Newcastle has already sold Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon in two blockbuster deals.

The Magpies have responded by signing Bazoumana Toure and Ajax teenager Sean Steur.

Meanwhile, Manchester United continues its midfield rebuild after agreeing a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson and missing out on several top targets.

Now, both clubs have turned their attention to the same Premier League midfielder.

According to the Evening Standard, Newcastle United have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Chelsea’s Andrey Santos.

The report says Santos wants regular first-team football and is open to leaving Stamford Bridge this summer.

Chelsea values the Brazilian midfielder but no longer considers him untouchable. Moises Caicedo’s recent contract extension has also influenced Santos’ thinking.

The 22-year-old would likely remain Caicedo’s understudy next season, prompting him to explore other opportunities.

Chelsea would prefer to keep Santos, but the club is willing to consider permanent offers if the right bid arrives.

The report also notes that Santos started only 13 Premier League matches last season. He impressed in flashes but struggled to secure a regular place under Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior.

Chelsea expects Santos to report for pre-season training on July 9. However, interest from Newcastle and Manchester United could develop further before the transfer window closes.
