Newcastle United are pushing to strengthen their attack further after an already extensive summer rebuild under Matthias Jaissle.
The Magpies have lost several major players, including Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon.
Nico Gonzalez arrived from Manchester City, while Aladji Bamba, Sean Steur and Bazoumana Toure were also added.
Newcastle have additionally agreed a €60 million deal with Lille for Matias Fernandez-Pardo as they continue reshaping their frontline.
However, their attacking recruitment may not end there, with another Serie A player now attracting serious interest.
Sunderland have previously tracked the same player and made an approach earlier in the summer.
Their interest was strengthened by transfer chief Florent Ghisolfi, who previously worked with the attacker at Roma.
According to Santi Aouna, Newcastle United have now made contact with Roma over a potential move for Matias Soule.
The Magpies have opened discussions regarding the Argentine as they explore another attacking addition before the window closes.
Soule enjoyed an impressive 2025–26 campaign, recording six goals and five assists across 33 Serie A appearances.
He can operate as an attacking midfielder, striker or right winger, giving Newcastle several options across their forward line.
Roma are reluctant to sanction his departure, although the possibility of a lucrative offer could influence their position. Soule remains under contract with the Italian club until June 2029.
Newcastle’s interest creates a potential late battle with Sunderland, who have monitored the 23-year-old throughout the summer.
However, Roma have not indicated that they are actively looking to sell him. But Newcastle’s contact has placed them firmly into the picture as the deadline approaches.
The Magpies are now attempting to move quickly over Soule after already completing significant business during the closing stages of the window.
