Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly already decided how far they are willing to go in the race for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes this summer.
The Portuguese midfielder attracted major interest across Europe after impressing despite West Ham’s disastrous relegation from the Premier League.
Manchester United, Arsenal and PSG all monitored the 21-year-old closely during recent months. Many even compared Fernandes’ playing style to fellow Portugal international Bruno Fernandes.
However, West Ham’s relegation immediately complicated the situation. The London club know several top players could now push for exits following their drop into the Championship.
Yet despite the relegation, West Ham reportedly still plan to demand a huge fee for Fernandes.
Transfer News Live has already revealed that the Hammers want around £84 million for the midfielder.
That valuation immediately raised doubts inside several interested clubs. Now, PSG appear to have made their stance clear.
The Parisian giants currently expect a relatively quiet summer with only a few small additions to the squad.
That approach significantly weakens the chances of PSG matching West Ham’s huge asking price for Fernandes.
According to Footmercato, PSG view the £80 million valuation as excessive for a player still developing at the highest level.
The midfielder also missed out on Portugal’s World Cup squad, which further strengthened doubts surrounding such a massive fee.
Still, PSG reportedly remain interested in Fernandes and could attempt negotiations if West Ham eventually lower their demands.
The club believe relegation could eventually force the Hammers into becoming more flexible later in the window.
Fernandes remains under contract until 2030, which still gives West Ham strong negotiating power despite dropping into the Championship.
For now, PSG appear unwilling to spend enormous money on the Portuguese midfielder unless the financial conditions change significantly during the summer.
