Viktor Gyökeres is fast becoming one of the most talked about players of this summer’s transfer window.
The former Swansea City and Coventry striker has had quite the rise.
After 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting Lisbon in all competitions, Gyökeres has been linked with various top clubs in Europe.
Gyökeres, 27, has in particular been linked with a big money move to the Premier League.
This is a league he came agonisingly close to playing in back in 2023.
Gyökeres appeared in the EFL Championship final as Coventry took on Luton Town.
He scored a penalty in the shootout but Coventry ultimately lost and Gyökeres would then make the move to Sporting in that summer.
He has gone from strength to strength and at his age, he would be arriving at a club in his prime.
His performance against Manchester City in this season’s UEFA Champions League caught a lot of people’s eyes.
In particular, Arsenal and Manchester United have expressed interest in Gyökeres.
Earlier this week, Sporting president Frederico Varandas denied any offer had been made for Gyökeres.
He has also denied any £59 million price tag.
It has now been reported that Arsenal have threatened to pull out of the Gyökeres race.
A €70 million offer is now said to have been offered by the North London side and rejected by Sporting.
The interest in Gyökeres looks to have been frozen.
The club is reported to potentially turn their attention to either RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Šeško or Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
A move away from bidding war would open up the door for Man United to acquire his services.
This would result in a reunion between Gyökeres and his former manager, Ruben Amorim.
