Last year, Crystal Palace won the FA Cup and Eberechi Eze played a key role in it.
In fact, the England international perhaps scored the most important and memorable goal in the history of Crystal Palace.
Eze scored the only goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City that made the Seagulls the champions for the first time in the history of their club.
Last season, Eberechi Eze was brilliant for Crystal Palace. The Englishman scored 14 goals in 43 appearances for Palace in all competitions.
That is why many English and European giants were chasing him. But, the club that was most interested to sign him was Arsenal.
After signing Noni Madueke, it looked like Arsenal would make a move for the Palace star.
However, things have slowed down. Meanwhile, the Gunners have also signed Viktor Gyokeres, the striker many believed could be the missing link between Arsenal and the Premier League glory.
Andrea Berta has acted swiftly when it comes to sealing the deals for the Gunners. However, for this Eberechi Eze to Arsenal deal, things are not moving as swiftly as everyone expected.
Most expected Eze to be wearing the Arsenal shirt and participating in preseason friendly games. However, the opposite has happened as Eze is still with the Palace squad.
Now, according to The Athletic (via Express), Arsenal are reluctant to trigger the £68 million release clause of Eberechi Eze.
The reason for this is they expect Palace to reduce their price for Eze. On the other hand, the release clause will soon expire before the start of the season. So, the Gunners need to hurry.
It is for sure that Crystal Palace are a hard club to do any deal. Liverpool are also struggling with Marc Guehi deal. So, it will be interesting to see what Arsenal will do in the coming weeks.
