It looks like Marc Guehi will be the most sought-after player heading into the January transfer window. Multiple Premier League and European clubs are looking to sign him.
Last year in January, Newcastle United were desperate to sign the former Chelsea defender. However, Crystal Palace were not ready to sell him.
His performances for both club and country have drawn attention to the English defender. In Euro, Guehi was a standout for England in defence.
In the summer, many clubs wanted to sign Guehi. But the 25-year-old had his heart set on one destination: Liverpool.
The Reds were very close to signing him. But they failed to get that deal over the line in the dying moments of the summer transfer window.
Crystal Palace wanted to sign Brighton & Hove Albion defender Igor Julio as a replacement for the English defender.
The Eagles even booked medical for the Brazilian defender. But they walked away from the deal because of one man: Oliver Glasner.
The Crystal Palace manager was adamant not to lose Guehi. In fact, he reportedly threatened the club that he would resign if they sold Guehi.
After losing Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, this was something Glasner couldn’t afford. However, the situation has changed drastically now.
Guehi has not renewed his contract and will become a free agent. This gives leverage to European clubs to sign a pre-contract with him.
Clubs such as Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Inter, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, and Galatasaray are all looking to sign him on a free transfer.
However, for English clubs, they cannot sign a pre-contract. That is why they will be looking to get the deal over the line in January.
English clubs that are showing maximum interest in Guehi are Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur.
So, it will be interesting to see which club finally lands Guehi, an English club in January or a European giant in the summer.
