After a successful summer transfer window, Arsenal were expected to have a quiet January. However, something happened that has prompted the Gunners to look at the market again.

But this time, it could be too late for the Gunners to make a move. Arsenal might need to get a deal over the line on deadline day to find a cover for injured Mikel Merino.

Transfer News Live has already revealed that the Spaniard will be out for the rest of the season. And, as the season approaches its climax, Mikel Arteta would demand a replacement.

The Gunners are six points clear at the top of the Premier League. This is probably their best chance to win the Premier League after two decades.

So, they would be looking to cover the basis because their rivals, Manchester City, have already strengthened their side with the signings of Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi.

Now, according to Florian Plettenberg on X, Arsenal are exploring a surprise deal for Sandro Tonali of Newcastle United on deadline day.

The German claimed that the deal is at an early stage and the Magpies have rejected an early approach. However, there are contradictory reports as well.

As per Luke Edwards from The Telegraph, Newcastle have described reports linking Tonali to Arsenal as ‘stupid’ and ‘complete rubbish.’

There is no doubt Arsenal will be looking to make a move for a replacement for Mikel Merino. So, whether that will be Tonali or not, only time will tell.
