Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as one of the busiest clubs of the summer transfer window. Roberto De Zerbi has wasted little time reshaping his squad ahead of the new season.
The North London club recently completed a deal for Jan Paul van Hecke. The Brighton defender arrived for a reported fee of £52 million.
His signing followed the arrivals of Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi. Together, those additions have transformed Tottenham’s defensive options.
However, De Zerbi’s attention has already shifted elsewhere. The Italian coach now wants to strengthen the heart of his midfield.
As a result, Tottenham have identified Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali as a priority target. According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs are expected to open formal talks with Newcastle.
The midfielder has become one of De Zerbi’s leading targets this summer. Reports also suggest Tonali is open to the possibility of joining Tottenham Hotspur.
The chance to work under De Zerbi appears to appeal to the Italy international. That development has encouraged Tottenham as they prepare their next move.
Now, fresh information has revealed the club’s position after learning Newcastle’s demands. According to Alfredo Pedulla, Tottenham are prepared to meet Newcastle’s asking price.
The report claims Spurs would be willing to pay more than £100 million for Sandro Tonali. Such a fee would shatter Tottenham’s current transfer record.
It would also rank among the biggest deals in Premier League history. The willingness to spend such a figure highlights how highly De Zerbi rates the midfielder.
Pedulla reports that the relationship between the Tottenham manager and Tonali could prove decisive.
