Tottenham Hotspur set to sign Sandro Tonali

Tonali remains under contract until 2028, meaning Newcastle remain in a strong negotiating position.

Tottenham Hotspur continue to reshape their squad ahead of the new season as Roberto De Zerbi targets further reinforcements.

The North London club narrowly avoided relegation last season and now want significant improvements across the pitch.

De Zerbi has already started work on that rebuild following his appointment. Spurs recently secured the signing of Andy Robertson after the defender left Liverpool at the end of his contract.

Marcos Senesi is also set to arrive after his Bournemouth deal expires later this month.

Meanwhile, Tottenham continue their pursuit of Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke despite seeing two bids rejected.

The club also moved quickly to reject Brighton’s £30 million offer for Luka Vuskovic. However, defensive additions are not the only focus this summer.

Tottenham also want to strengthen their midfield options before the start of the new campaign. That search has led them towards one of the Premier League’s most highly-rated midfielders.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali. The report claims De Zerbi is driving the club’s interest in the Italian international.

Although Spurs have approached the player, they have not yet opened formal talks with Newcastle.

Competition for his signature could also prove fierce. Arsenal and Manchester City are among the clubs monitoring the midfielder’s situation. Manchester United are also eyeing a move for Tonali.

However, Tonali reportedly has a different preference at this stage. The 26-year-old would favour a return to AC Milan if the opportunity arises.

Tonali remains under contract until 2028, meaning Newcastle remain in a strong negotiating position.

Whether Tottenham can convince Tonali to choose their project over a return to Milan remains one of the biggest questions of the summer.
