Arsenal make calls to sign Sandro Tonali

Newcastle value Tonali at around £100M.

Arsenal may have ended their 22-year wait for a Premier League title, but Mikel Arteta still wants to strengthen the squad before next season begins.

The Gunners enjoyed a remarkable 2025-26 campaign and established themselves as the strongest team in England.

They also reached two major finals, including the Champions League final, while building one of the most balanced squads in Europe.

However, Arteta and the hierarchy now want to push the squad to another level.

Several arrivals and departures are expected during the current transfer window as Arsenal attempt to maintain their dominance domestically while competing strongly in Europe again.

Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi formed an important partnership throughout the campaign, while Mikel Merino and Myles Lewis-Skelly also provided valuable depth across the season.

Despite that, Arsenal still want another elite midfielder. That search has now led the club towards Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal recently made calls regarding a possible move for the Italy international this summer.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that Arsenal remain active behind the scenes as they explore the conditions of a potential transfer.

“Arsenal made some calls over the recent days for Tonali, so Arsenal are also in the mix,” Romano explained.

“There could be more clubs joining the race for Tonali. Remember, there could be more clubs, so the situation around Sandro Tonali could become interesting.”

Arsenal already showed interest in Tonali during the January transfer window after Merino suffered an injury. However, Newcastle kept hold of the midfielder at the time.

The situation now appears very different. Newcastle value Tonali at around £100M. However, the Gunners have not allowed that valuation to discourage early discussions.

Sandro Tonali could give Arteta another huge weapon in midfield as Arsenal attempt to establish a new era of dominance.
