Tottenham Hotspur are reassessing their January transfer strategy as doubts grow over a potential move for Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo.
Spurs have been searching for greater consistency in wide areas this season. Overall, goals have not been a major issue.
But the lack of a reliable attacking outlet on the flanks has repeatedly stalled their momentum in key matches.
Semenyo had been identified as a leading target after an impressive campaign at Bournemouth.
But his £65 million release clause, active only for a short window in early January, has complicated matters.
With Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool all monitoring the situation, Tottenham privately accept their chances of winning that race are slim.
As a result, attention has shifted towards Manchester City. According to TEAMtalk, one name under consideration is Omar Marmoush.
His role at the Etihad has been limited following his move from Eintracht Frankfurt earlier this year.
Strong competition for places has restricted his minutes, despite his versatility across the front line.
The Spurs view Marmoush as a profile that could immediately add pace and unpredictability to their attack.
However, any deal would be difficult. Manchester City are reluctant to weaken their squad mid-season. This will make a loan with an option to buy the most realistic route.
Tottenham Hotspur are also understood to be tracking a second City player, Savinho. They chased the Brazilian in the summer transfer window as well.
But they failed to land him and also missed out on the chance to sign Eberechi Eze. However, Thomas Frank admires the Brazilian.
So, the Spurs could reignite their interest with discussions still at an early stage as they weigh up their next move.
