Manchester United enjoyed an impressive turnaround during the second half of the 2025/26 season under Michael Carrick.
The Red Devils finished third in the Premier League and secured a return to the UEFA Champions League.
They also became the only team in the division to avoid consecutive league defeats throughout the campaign.
United have stayed busy in the summer transfer window. They signed Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa to strengthen midfield.
Karl Darlow also arrived on a free transfer, while Casemiro, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia all departed.
Rasmus Hojlund completed a permanent move to Napoli as Carrick continues reshaping his squad. The club has also shown encouraging form in pre-season.
After losing 1-0 to Wrexham, United responded with a 5-0 win over Rosenborg before beating Atletico Madrid 2-1 thanks to Bryan Mbeumo’s second-half brace.
Carrick is still looking to add a left-back before the new season begins.
According to Ben Jacobs on The United Stand YouTube channel, Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence has now been offered to Manchester United by his representatives.
Liverpool are also aware of the player’s availability as Spence looks for regular first-team football.
United still view Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall as their preferred target. However, Newcastle remain unwilling to sell, forcing the club to consider other options.
Spence’s camp has presented the England international to several Premier League clubs, although United have not yet decided whether to pursue a deal.
Spence impressed for both Tottenham and England during the 2026 World Cup and can operate on either flank.
Tottenham are reportedly willing to listen to offers worth around £35 million. Liverpool, Newcastle United and Inter Milan have also been linked with the versatile full-back.
For now, though, Manchester United remain focused on Hall, with Spence viewed as an alternative rather than a priority target.
