Vinicius Junior makes Real Madrid stance clear amid Arsenal links

The path could open for Arsenal to pursue a move.

The future of Vinicius Junior at Real Madrid has become one of the biggest talking points of the summer transfer window.

The Brazil international has entered the final year of his contract, leaving Europe’s biggest clubs closely monitoring the situation.

Arsenal are among those keeping a close watch as uncertainty continues over his long-term future. However, the winger has now made his preferred destination clear.

According to the Daily Mail, Vinicius Junior has delayed his return to Real Madrid’s pre-season training while his representatives attempt to restart negotiations over a new contract.

The report states that the 26-year-old wants to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu if an agreement can be reached.nReal Madrid have also made their position clear.

The Spanish giants believe the decision now rests entirely with the player. If Vinicius lowers his salary demands to match the club’s proposal, he will stay.

However, Real Madrid do not intend to improve their current offer. If no agreement is reached, the path could open for Arsenal to pursue a move.

The Daily Mail reports that Vinicius’ representatives will argue the Brazilian deserves improved terms because of his global profile and commercial importance to the club.

His current contract also gives Real Madrid around 50 per cent of his publicity income. Meanwhile, Real Madrid have moved closer to completing the signing of Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig.

The Ivory Coast winger is represented by the same agency as Vinicius and would provide Jose Mourinho with another attacking option.

Arsenal continue to monitor the situation as they search for a marquee winger. The Gunners are also tracking Julian Alvarez, Bradley Barcola and Diomande. The Gunners have not opened official talks for Vinicius.
