Senne Lammens has offered a clear insight into Bruno Fernandes’ future, and it points strongly in one direction.
There has been quite uncertainty around the Manchester United captain in recent months. His contract situation, combined with the club’s struggles, raised questions about what comes next.
However, the latest signs suggest a different outcome. Fernandes continues to lead from the front.
He delivered another standout display in the 1-0 win over Chelsea, assisting the winner and controlling the game throughout. His numbers back it up as well.
The Portuguese midfielder now has 18 Premier League assists this season and remains a leading contender for the Player of the Season. Still, the bigger question has been about his future.
And that is where Lammens’ comments become important. Lammens said of Fernandes’ vocal style:
“It’s the way I like it, to be honest.
“He’s not always the most vocal. He’s heard when he needs to be, especially before big games.
“Or when we have maybe more difficulties he’s also someone who’s very, very hard on himself and on everybody else.
“That’s why maybe sometimes he can look a little bit frustrated when it’s not going our way.
“But that’s also the way it has to be at this level, I think, because he wants to win Champions Leagues and he wants to win the Premier League, so that’s what he’s thinking about and that’s what tries to give us as well.
“He tries to take us to his level as well, so it’s a leader on and off the pitch.
“He’s very demanding of course. But he also knows that in the Premier League, in the way we are, you can win and lose some games.
“The most important thing is always how you react to it.”
Those words point to one thing. Fernandes still sees his future at Manchester United. His focus remains on winning major trophies with the club.
Behind that, United continue to deal with challenges on the pitch. Injuries and suspensions forced changes at the back, yet the team still secured a clean sheet at Stamford Bridge.
For now, the message around Fernandes feels clear. He is not thinking about leaving. His focus is only winning.
