Coventry City are pushing ahead with plans to strengthen their squad after securing promotion, and they now look set to win a key transfer battle.

The newly-promoted side have already started working on deals that could help them compete in the Premier League next season. They have already made their first signing.

The club have made survival their main objective, and early moves in the market will play a crucial role. Several targets have been identified, but one position has received immediate attention.

According to Standard Sport, Coventry City are now leading the race to secure Carl Rushworth on a permanent deal. Several Premier League clubs have also monitored him closely.

Newcastle United showed strong interest and even sent scouts to watch him ahead of a potential summer move. However, Coventry have quietly moved into a strong position.

Rushworth has spent the season at Coventry on loan and has impressed consistently during that spell. His development has accelerated under Frank Lampard.

Coventry’s promotion has strengthened their chances of securing him. The club will return to top-flight football for the first time in 25 years, which makes the project more appealing.

However, they still need to reach an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion to complete the deal. The goalkeeper has already built a strong reputation.

Rushworth previously turned down offers from Arsenal and Manchester United before joining Brighton in 2019. Despite that, he is yet to make a senior appearance for the club.

He also set a club record earlier this season by going 608 minutes without conceding a goal, surpassing a mark that had stood since 1934.

Coventry City are now close to completing the move, with Carl Rushworth keen to stay after his loan spell, which puts them ahead of Newcastle United in the race for his signature.
