Aston Villa ready to stop star from joining Arsenal

Arsenal could face a difficult task if they decide to pursue a deal this summer.

Aston Villa enjoyed an outstanding 2025-26 campaign under Unai Emery. They secured fourth place in the Premier League and qualified for the Champions League once again.

Their season became even more memorable on the European stage. Emery guided the club to UEFA Europa League glory to cap a historic year.

Villa entered the summer transfer window with financial regulations in mind. The club also wanted to make adjustments to the squad ahead of another demanding campaign.

However, Emery remains focused on keeping the strongest parts of his squad together. Villa will return to the Champions League next season and expect another busy year.

The Spaniard knows he will need quality and depth across his squad. As a result, Villa have little interest in weakening key areas of the team.

According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are prepared to do “everything they can” to stop Ezri Konsa from joining Arsenal this summer.

Sources told the outlet that Villa are ready to make life “difficult” for Arsenal during negotiations. They also have no desire to lose such an important player to a Premier League rival.

Konsa remains one of the first names on Emery’s team sheet. The defender still has two years remaining on his current contract.

The 28-year-old failed to start only two Premier League matches last season. Villa have already identified him for another major role in 2026-27.

His importance has also carried over onto the international stage. Konsa has started all five of England’s World Cup matches so far. He also impressed during England’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Mexico in the last 16.

Villa, therefore, have little reason to reconsider their position. Their stance is unlikely to change unless an irrefusable offer arrives. That means Arsenal could face a difficult task if they decide to pursue a deal this summer.
