Newcastle United tipped to sign Bayern Munich star as Bruno Guimaraes replacement

Newcastle may decide experience is required immediately rather than another long-term project.

Bruno Guimaraes has already informed Newcastle United that he wants to leave the club.

The Brazilian wants to join Arsenal this summer and has already agreed personal terms over a five-year contract.

Newcastle continue to resist a sale despite growing pressure from the player’s camp.

However, the Magpies have already started to assess potential replacements should their captain eventually leave St James’ Park.

According to Football Insider, Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha has emerged as a possible target for Eddie Howe’s side.

The Portugal international recently returned to Germany after Tottenham Hotspur decided against activating their £25 million option to buy following his loan spell in North London.

Palhinha impressed despite Tottenham’s difficult campaign. The experienced midfielder scored seven goals across all competitions and played a key role in helping Spurs avoid relegation.

The Portuguese international first established himself in English football during his spell with Fulham.

His aggressive ball-winning style and physical presence quickly made him one of the Premier League’s standout defensive midfielders. A move to Bayern Munich followed in 2024.

However, opportunities proved limited in Germany before he returned to England with Tottenham last season. Newcastle‘s interest arrives during a summer of major changes at St James’ Park.

Anthony Gordon has already joined Barcelona, while Sandro Tonali completed his £100 million move to Tottenham Hotspur. Bruno Guimaraes could now become the latest high-profile departure.

Should that happen, Newcastle may decide experience is required immediately rather than another long-term project.

Palhinha’s Premier League pedigree and availability could make him an attractive option for the Magpies as they prepare for life after their captain.
