Manchester United identify Lewis Hall alternative

Manchester United have started preparing an alternative plan.

Manchester United continue to focus on strengthening their defence before the transfer window closes.

Michael Carrick guided the club to third place in the Premier League last season. That finish secured Champions League qualification following a difficult start to the campaign.

United have since backed Carrick with several summer additions. Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans arrived to strengthen the midfield.

Meanwhile, Karl Darlow and Kit Margetson added further depth to the goalkeeping department. However, the club still want a new left-back.

Lewis Hall remains Manchester United’s leading target for that position. The club view the Newcastle United defender as a long-term successor to Luke Shaw.

Moreover, Eddie Howe’s departure has encouraged United to increase their efforts. Technical director Jason Wilcox remains a strong admirer of Hall.

He particularly values the England international’s ability to play as a conventional full-back or move into central areas.

However, Newcastle could demand around £60M for the 21-year-old. Therefore, Manchester United have started preparing an alternative plan.

According to TEAMtalk, Racing Santander defender Jorge Salinas has emerged as a leading option if United cannot complete a deal for Hall.

The 19-year-old impressed United’s scouts during Spain’s successful European Under-19 Championship campaign.

He also played an important role as Racing Santander won the Segunda Division title and secured promotion. United believe Salinas could step directly into senior football.

However, they face strong competition for his signature. Barcelona have already held talks and currently lead the race for the Spanish defender.

Negotiations have stalled because the clubs disagree over his valuation. Racing Santander want around €16M, while Barcelona have refused to offer more than €8M.

Atletico Madrid have also shown interest in the youngster. Meanwhile, United continue to monitor Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde.

Even so, Hall remains their priority. United are preparing to begin formal discussions with Newcastle as they attempt to complete one of Carrick’s key summer objectives.
