Manchester United continue pushing to strengthen their squad after securing a return to the Champions League under Michael Carrick.
The Red Devils have already addressed key areas during the transfer window, but the recruitment team still wants further additions before the new season begins.
Central midfield remains the club’s biggest priority after missing out on several leading targets.
Manchester City have won the race for Elliot Anderson. Meanwhile, West Ham United continue demanding a huge fee for Mateus Fernandes, forcing United to assess alternative options.
However, Carrick and the recruitment department are not limiting their search to midfield.
The club also wants greater competition in defence as the demands of domestic and European football increase next season.
That search has now produced an encouraging development involving one of Newcastle United‘s most highly-rated players.
According to The Sun, Lewis Hall is keen to join Manchester United and play Champions League football if the opportunity arises this summer.
The report claims United are considering strengthening the left-back position despite Luke Shaw starting every Premier League match last season. Hall has emerged as one of the leading candidates.
The England international reportedly believes Eddie Howe’s management during Newcastle’s run-in contributed to him missing out on Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for this summer.
Despite the player’s reported stance, Newcastle have little interest in selling. The Magpies have already sanctioned Anthony Gordon’s move to Barcelona.
They also continue receiving interest in Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Tino Livramento.
Newcastle, therefore, wants to retain Lewis Hall, especially with three years remaining on his current contract.
The club also appears reluctant to strengthen a direct Premier League rival by allowing the defender to move to Old Trafford.
For the moment, Hall’s reported desire to play Champions League football has handed the Red Devils fresh encouragement.
