Liverpool have started the 2026/27 campaign strongly under Andoni Iraola after making significant changes during the summer.
The Reds remain unbeaten following four victories and three draws, establishing themselves among the Premier League’s leading sides.
Liverpool invested more than £217 million during the summer, with Bradley Barcola becoming their headline attacking addition from Paris Saint-Germain.
Jeremy Jacquet also arrived from Rennes for £60 million, while Ronald Araujo joined on loan from Barcelona to strengthen the defence.
However, Liverpool are continuing to assess their long-term defensive options as Iraola prepares for further changes at Anfield.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool are working on a potential move for Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite.
The Reds have identified the 24-year-old while searching for a left-sided centre-back as part of their future defensive planning.
Liverpool have monitored Branthwaite closely and are conducting background work as they assess whether a deal could become possible.
Branthwaite has also enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign, helping Everton remain unbeaten and earning an England recall.
However, completing a move across Merseyside would present Liverpool with a considerable obstacle.
TEAMtalk understands Everton continue to regard Branthwaite as a crucial player and have no intention of selling him.
The defender signed a new contract following David Moyes’ return, with his current agreement running until 2030.
Everton are therefore under no immediate pressure to sanction his departure and are not considering selling him in 2027.
The rivalry between the two clubs would create another complication if Liverpool eventually decide to formalise their interest.
Manchester United also retain an interest after previously attempting to sign Branthwaite during the summer of 2024.
Everton’s stance means Liverpool would likely need an exceptional proposal to change the situation, with a record-breaking bid potentially required.
For now, Iraola’s side are continuing their assessment while waiting to discover whether Everton’s position changes.
