Bayern Munich have started planning for their long-term future in goal as Manuel Neuer approaches the end of his current contract.
The 40-year-old remains Vincent Kompany’s first-choice goalkeeper and recently reached 600 competitive appearances for the German champions.
Neuer signed a one-year extension in May, keeping him at Bayern until June 2027 after another season as the club’s leading goalkeeper.
Meanwhile, Bayern have enjoyed a strong opening to the new campaign, collecting 10 points from their first four Bundesliga matches.
Their summer recruitment remained selective, with Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown arriving for €50 million each.
However, Bayern are also assessing how to replace one of their most influential players when Neuer eventually leaves.
According to Alan Nixon (via Patreon), Bayern have identified Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford as a leading candidate to succeed Neuer.
Kompany has reportedly gathered information about the England international as Bayern prepare for the possibility of changing goalkeepers in 2027.
Pickford has also moved ahead of Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen on Bayern’s list of potential Neuer replacements.
The 32-year-old signed a new Everton contract last year, with his current agreement running until 2029.
However, the report claims Pickford would consider moving to Munich for the opportunity to play Champions League football and compete for trophies.
Bayern’s interest remains at the assessment stage, with no offer or negotiations with Everton mentioned in the report.
Pickford has established himself as a key figure for Everton while remaining England’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Any move would therefore require Bayern to secure a player who remains under a long-term contract with the Premier League club.
Neuer’s situation will ultimately influence Bayern’s next step, but Pickford has emerged prominently in their succession planning.
