Napoli are preparing for an ambitious summer transfer window under Antonio Conte.
With a successful Serie A campaign behind them, the club’s top brass is working overtime to build a squad capable of keeping its place among Europe’s elite.
Sporting director Giovanni Manna has wasted no time in identifying key names who can deliver immediate impact both in terms of quality and value.
The blueprint is clear: bring in experienced, top-level talent without breaking the bank.
That strategy recently saw the club begin negotiations to sign Kevin De Bruyne on a free transfer, an audacious move that could change the face of Italian club’s midfield.
But it seems the Serie A side are not stopping there.
According to Nicolò Schira, Napoli are now making progress on another major free transfer.
Talks have been ongoing for several days, led directly by Manna, who is said to have revived a deal he initially explored last summer before the club opted to pursue Romelu Lukaku instead.
This time, there is growing belief that the move can be completed.
Napoli have reportedly made a long-term offer: a five-year contract running until 2029, with an option for a further season.
The financial package is substantial, worth €6 million per year, reflecting the club’s seriousness. However, there is still one hurdle left to clear.
The player’s agent is pushing for the inclusion of a release clause. It is a condition that could give the striker flexibility in the future.
Negotiations are ongoing, and while other clubs; namely Inter Milan and Juventus remain interested, Napoli have taken the lead.
The player in question is Lille striker Jonathan David.
The Canadian forward is set to leave Ligue 1 this summer and will be available as a free agent.
With 25 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions this season, David fits Antonio Conte’s profile perfectly. He is a proven goal scorer and is available without a transfer fee.
If Manna can close the deal, David could be the second marquee free signing of the summer after Kevin De Bruyne signalling Napoli’s intent to stay on top of Italian football in style.
