Harry Maguire may not be leaving Manchester United after all. The defender is now in line for a new contract, with talks already underway with his representatives.

At 32, he was expected to depart at the end of the season. His current deal runs out in 2026, and several clubs have been watching the situation closely. But things have changed.

According to The Sun, Manchester United are now holding discussions with Maguire’s representatives. Director of football negotiations Matt Hargreaves has led the early talks.

The club want him to stay. Maguire is open to that. However, a new deal would come with a pay cut.

Last season, the defender was earning £190,000 per week. But after Manchester United failed to qualify for European football, his salary was reduced by 25 percent.

Now, he earns £140,000 per week. That figure is expected to remain the same in any new agreement. Still, Maguire appears willing to accept it.

The England international has featured in six Premier League matches this season. Across all competitions, he has played in 38 of the 50 games managed by Ruben Amorim.

In fact, it was the manager’s request that triggered a one-year extension to Maguire’s deal in January.

Since then, the defender has become part of the leadership group within the squad. At one point, Maguire looked set to leave.

The defender came close to joining West Ham before the move collapsed. He also had interest from Saudi club Al-Nassr, who remain keen on signing him.

Now, Manchester United may have bigger plans for him. There are suggestions that the club want him to remain involved even after his playing days end.

That could include a coaching role. His experience would benefit the younger players. For now, the next step is clear. Maguire wants to stay and Manchester United want him to stay.
