It is no secret that Manchester United are looking to sign Sporting CP captain Morten Hjulmand.

The Danish international shared a great relationship with the ex-Sporting and current United manager, Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese boss wanted to sign a midfielder for United this summer. When the Carlos Baleba move was thwarted by Brighton, United decided not to pursue any other midfielder.

However, United didn’t have the time to pursue another midfielder; the curtains dropped on the summer transfer window.

But Manchester United are still looking to sign a midfielder in January. And, various reports suggest that United might go for Hjulmand.

It is quite easy to create a link between United and Hjulmand. Ruben Amorim is the current United manager. And he was the one who signed Hjulmand for Sporting.

Similarly, Viktor Gyokeres was also linked to Manchester United, and the Red Devils did make a move for the striker, who went on to sign for Arsenal.

But with this Morten Hjulmand to Manchester United transfer saga, the link is easier to establish as the Red Devils are desperate to sign a midfielder.

Also, Kobbie Mainoo is eager to leave Old Trafford and is eyeing a move to Napoli. The English international believes he can revive his career in Italy.

Mainoo is watching Rasmus Hojlund and Scott McTominay do what he wants to do with his career. That is why United need to find a player to replace Mainoo.

However, according to Football Insider, Manchester United might not sign Hjulmand this summer as the Portuguese club wants to keep their captain.

Sporting can reach the knockout phase of the Champions League. That is why Hjulmand could be a key player for them.

So, if Manchester United want to sign Morten Hjulmand, they might have to wait until next summer.
