Arsenal are entering a crucial phase of the season, with big games coming thick and fast. So, squad availability is now more important than ever.
Mikel Arteta’s side have a packed schedule ahead. They face Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-final on Saturday.
Also, they will take on Sporting CP in the Champions League quarter-final first leg next week. That is why fitness concerns are starting to build, as several key players are facing uncertainty.
Midfield options, in particular, are under the spotlight with Arsenal may need to rotate carefully. So, attention has now turned towards Myles Lewis-Skelly, who has not featured much recently.
That is why Manchester United are eyeing a move for Lewis-Skelly. He last started in the FA Cup fourth round win over Wigan. After that, things did not go his way.
Also, he missed another chance due to Riccardo Calafiori’s injury in the warm-up, which made him appear as the left-back rather than in the midfield.
Then came suspension, and he was unavailable for the fifth round clash against Mansfield. So, since mid-February, he has played just one minute of club football.
However, things have changed during the international break. He featured heavily and played 90 minutes in both matches for England U21s.
According to England U21 boss Lee Carsley, the player is now fully ready. He said (via The BBC):
“He’s shown such a great attitude, and it’s really benefited him this week, playing minutes and training at a good level.
“We look at attitude, we look at the desire to play, and he was really enthusiastic about coming to the 21s.
“The fact now that he’s potentially going back having played a lot of minutes for England puts him a strong position where, if he is called upon or gets a chance, he is ready to go.”
So, the game against Southampton will surely give Lewis-Skelly a chance to impress Mikel Arteta, as the Gunners prepare for the final phase of the 2025/26 season.
