Bundesliga side suspend winger for drunk driving arrest

A Bundesliga side have taken swift action after one of their senior players landed in serious trouble off the pitch.

The winger has been suspended from all training and matchday activities with immediate effect following a drunk-driving incident last week.

The Bundesliga side confirmed the decision after what they described as “serious misconduct.”

The incident occurred last Sunday when the 30-year-old winger was stopped during a routine traffic check. Police detected alcohol after a breath test, prompting further action.

In an official statement, Hamburger SV revealed that Jean-Luc Dompe was informed of the suspension on Thursday morning after a meeting with the club’s sporting leadership. The statement read:

“During the discussion, Dompe was emphatically reminded of his responsibilities as a professional, a role model and a representative of the club.”

For now, the suspension remains open-ended. The club have stated that they will decide further consequences after completing additional internal consultations.

Meanwhile, more details surrounding the incident have emerged in Germany. According to BILD, Dompe had a blood alcohol content of 0.14 percent when the police stopped him.

The police station took to a nearby station for a blood test, and they confiscated his driving licence on the spot. However, the situation reportedly escalated further after his release.

The report claims Dompe used an e-scooter to travel home from the police station. Officers are said to have witnessed this and filed an additional charge against the player.

This latest incident is not the first time Dompe has been linked with vehicle-related issues. BILD also recalls an episode from February 2023 involving an illegal street race.=

Hamburg will now decide their next steps once internal discussions are concluded, while Dompe’s future remains uncertain amid growing scrutiny over his conduct.
