There is a famous Sir Alex Ferguson quote: “Attack wins you games, defense wins you titles.”
This is exactly what Arsenal are doing. They are by far the strongest team defensively this season in the entire Europe.
So far this season, Arsenal have only conceded three goals. And, those three goals came against three different oppositions.
Only Liverpool, Manchester City, and Newcastle United were able to score a goal against the Gunners this season. So, they are on top of the Premier League table and that too quite deservingly.
In an interview (via The Standard), Arsenal’s goalkeeper revealed the secret to how the Gunners have become so good defensively.
The Spanish goalkeeper gave credit to a former Manchester United star who joined Arsenal this summer.
So, Raya believes Gabriel Heinze is playing a crucial role in the defensive prowess of the Gunners. He said during that interview:
“He’s a guy (Heinze), he’s a coach, where he wants us to fight – a lot of intensity.
“To win games, you have to defend very well, especially in this league. This is the toughest league in the world.
“You have to be very, very, very solid to be able to win games. Normally, the games are won by one goal.
“So, it’s really, really important to keep that asset from us, from everyone. Not just the back line, just every single player. So, it’s a lot of credit to him as well.”
Arsenal beat Burnley at Turf Moor this weekend to register their ninth win in a row in all competitions.
The Gunners will now shift their focus to the Champions League. They will travel to Prague to take on Slavia Praha.
Thus, Mikel Arteta’s men will be looking to register their eighth successive clean sheet in this game.
