Manchester United have secured Kobbie Mainoo’s future after finalising a new five-year contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2031.
The club had been working on the deal for months, with talks starting last year before gaining momentum in January. There was uncertainty earlier in the season.
Mainoo asked to leave on loan during the January transfer window when Ruben Amorim was in charge. However, United rejected that request and kept him at the club.
That call proved important. Under interim manager Michael Carrick, Mainoo forced his way back into the starting lineup.
He has started 13 of the last 14 matches, showing his growing role in the squad. His previous deal, which ran until 2027, earned him around £25,000 per week.
That figure no longer matched his importance, especially after his recent performances. United moved quickly to reward him with a significantly improved contract.
This new agreement marks a huge step up financially, with his salary rising by 500 per cent following months of negotiations, as reported by The Sun. Speaking after signing the deal, Kobbie Mainoo said:
“Manchester United has always been my home; this special club means everything to my family.
“I have grown up seeing the impact that our club has on our city, and I relish the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt.
“From The Cliff, to Littleton Road, to Carrington and ultimately Old Trafford, the journey so far has been incredible.
“I have the privilege of living my dream every single day, with the same relentless desire to succeed here as when I joined my first training session at the age of six.
“We can all feel the momentum building inside the club. I am determined to step up and play my role in helping Manchester United to regularly fight for major trophies in the years ahead.”
The deal will see Kobbie Mainoo earn £150,000 per week, reflecting his growing importance, while United now look to strengthen the midfield further this summer with Casemiro set to leave.
