One Manchester United player could be heading for the exit in January. Kobbie Mainoo has held talks with Ruben Amorim.
The 20-year-old asked for a loan move toward the end of the summer window. Mainoo wanted regular minutes to boost his chances of making the 2026 World Cup.
But, United refused to let him go. Mainoo has struggled for game time under Amorim. He was an unused substitute against Arsenal and Fulham in the opening two league games.
The England star then came off the bench against Burnley, Manchester City, and Chelsea. His only start this season came in the EFL Cup against Grimsby Town.
According to The Mirror, Mainoo recently held fresh discussions with Amorim. After those discussions, Mainoo still wants to leave. So, his stance has not changed.
The United head coach made it clear that the midfielder is part of his plans. But Mainoo remains concerned. With a lighter fixture schedule this season, his opportunities could stay limited.
Unless something changes, he wants to leave on loan in January. Mainoo’s contract runs until June 2027. The club holds an option to extend it by another year.
Howeverm, things could change in winter transfer window. Barcelona are now being linked with a January move.
Gavi is out for around five months, and the Spanish club may look to bring someone in. Mainoo is also attracting interest from Real Madrid, Tottenham, Chelsea, and Manchester City.
Despite limited minutes this season, he is still seen as one of England’s top young talents. Mainoo has made 76 appearances for Manchester United, scoring seven goals and adding three assists.
He may get a chance against Brentford on Saturday due to Casemiro’s suspension. But Manuel Ugarte is expected to start alongside Bruno Fernandes.
If things don’t change, Kobbie Mainoo could follow the footstep of Marcus Rashford and join Barcelona on loan.
