Manchester United are now closing in on a final decision regarding their next permanent manager.

The club has been assessing multiple candidates over recent months, but clarity is finally emerging behind the scenes.

United explored several high-profile options after the departure of Ruben Amorim earlier this year.

Names like Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nagelsmann, Mauricio Pochettino and Unai Emery were all considered.

There were also internal discussions around elite managers such as Luis Enrique and Diego Simeone. Meanwhile, Andoni Iraola and Gareth Southgate were linked externally.

The club’s hierarchy has been evaluating both results and long-term fit. There was no rush to make a decision, even after a strong run of performances in recent weeks.

However, the situation has now changed. United have secured Champions League qualification with games to spare, which has allowed them to accelerate their plans.

But according to TEAMtalk, Manchester United are now ready to make Michael Carrick their permanent head coach, with all key decision-makers backing the move internally.

Carrick has impressed since taking charge on an interim basis. He has won 10 of his 14 games and lost only twice, guiding the team back into the top four.

Director of football Jason Wilcox has played a key role in this process. He initially pushed for Carrick’s interim appointment and is now leading the effort to secure his long-term future.

Discussions are ongoing with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, CEO Omar Berrada and head of recruitment Christopher Vivell. However, there is now a strong sense of agreement across the board.

Planning for the summer is already underway. The United board are identifying recruitment targets according to Carrick’s tactical approach.

Senior players such as Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Matheus Cunha have all backed his appointment. Also, Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo are backing Carrick.

With momentum building, Manchester United now appear ready to enter a new era under Carrick’s leadership.
