Manchester United will host Nottingham Forest on Sunday in their final home match of the Premier League season. The game could become emotional at Old Trafford.
Now, Manchester United received positive injury news before the match. Casemiro missed last weekend’s draw against Sunderland with a minor problem.
The midfielder returned to training on Wednesday. Now, Michael Carrick has confirmed the Brazilian will face Nottingham Forest.
Speaking in his press conference, the interim Manchester United manager said:
“Yeah, Case’s available. Listen, I can speak for since I’ve been here and met him obviously, and worked with him. I think he’s been fantastic for us, for me personally, for us as a group.”
The match will likely become Casemiro’s final appearance at Old Trafford. The Brazilian will leave Manchester United when his contract expires in June.
The 34-year-old played an important role this season. He scored nine goals and provided two assists in 34 matches. Carrick also praised Casemiro’s attitude during a difficult campaign.
However, Benjamin Sesko could still miss Sunday’s game. The striker missed the Sunderland clash because of a shin injury. Carrick admitted the situation remains unclear. Carrick explained:
“Ben’s not as straightforward as Case. He’s still not 100 per cent with the problem that he had, so apart from that, we’re alright, yeah.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United continue discussing a new contract with Carrick. Reports claim the club offered the 44-year-old a two-year deal with the option of another year.
Michael Carrick returned to Manchester United earlier this year. Since then, he has won 10 of his 15 Premier League matches.
The former midfielder also confirmed he plans to address supporters after the final whistle on Sunday.
Manchester United already secured Champions League football for next season. Now, they will try to finish their home campaign with another victory at Old Trafford.
