Arsenal will take on Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby this Sunday. Ahead of the highly-anticipated clash, Mikel Arteta has delivered an injury update.
The Gunners dropped points against Wolves in their last game. They are now five points ahead of Manchester City. But Pep Guardiola’s men have a game in hand.
During the press conference, the Arsenal boss shed light on the availability of Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz. Arteta said:
“Well, we have to wait until tomorrow, but there is a big possibility that they are available for the game.”
Arteta also informed that Leandro Trossard will be fit for the game against Tottenham even after getting injured in the game against Wolves.
Furthermore, Bukayo Saka came off against Wolves at Molineux, but the Gunners’ boss has confirmed his availability. The England international recently signed a new deal. Arteta said:
“Bukayo’s news, obviously, is great; he’s one of our own, and we are very happy that the players are feeling in such a strong way about the club.
“We’ve got him here since he was very, very little. For him to make that decision and the club to be so aligned with him, I think that’s a really positive thing.”
Next, Arteta was also open to the idea of deploying both Saka and Havertz in the number 10 position. However, he urged caution. He said:
“We can; it depends as well on the availability of the players in terms of the load we can absorb.
“Bukayo was okay to start the game (against Wolves), but we knew that he could not finish the game, so we had to get him out.
“He was going to start to cramp or take a risk with the previous injury, and we didn’t want to do that. So, depending on the state of the players, how much we can use them.”
Similarly, Igor Tudor has issued an injury update for the Spurs ahead of the game against Arsenal. The Gunners will be hoping to get back to winning ways against a weaker Tottenham team.
