Premier League owner on trial for supporting a criminal organisation

The next hearing will take place on November 25.

Premier League trophy

The Premier League is perhaps the best football league in the world. This season, Arsenal are looking like the favourites to win the league.

However, Manchester City and Liverpool are climbing back in the title after a slow start from the Citizens and a blip from the Reds.

During a Premier League season, fans find multiple controversies to debate. Sometimes, an ex-player who is now a pundit makes claims, and the footballer retaliates.

Also, sometimes, some players mock some, which sparks controversies. Meanwhile, there are many legal battles to follow as well.

Crystal Palace recently faced charges because fans did something that the FA deemed inappropriate. However, the Palace fans could be proven right in this case.

A Premier League owner has found himself at the centre of a major legal storm. Crystal Palace fans have already made a banner indicating something similar.

Evangelos Marinakis, the owner of Nottingham Forest and Greek giants Olympiacos, has gone on trial in Greece.

The 58-year-old businessman faces accusations of instigating football violence and supporting a criminal organisation between 2019 and 2024.

Moreover, four other Olympiacos board members are also standing trial alongside him.

According to the BBC, the charges include two misdemeanour counts: instigating violence through public statements against authorities and providing support to a criminal group.

Therefore, the case has drawn significant media attention in both England and Greece.

Furthermore, the trial is part of a much larger case involving 142 individuals charged with crimes connected to football-related violence.

Thus, proceedings began under intense scrutiny, with journalists stationed in a nearby media room and no organised fan protests.

The next hearing will take place on November 25. And, the eyes of the fans in both England and Greece will remain fixed on Marinakis.
