Arsenal have not waited around this summer. After falling short last season, they are working fast to fix the gaps in their squad.
A new striker has been top of their list. Injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz hurt them during key moments last season.
So Mikel Arteta and the club have decided to go all in. At first, all eyes were on a Bundesliga forward. But those talks went quiet.
Instead, Arsenal have turned to another name. This player has been linked with Manchester United as well.
This forward is strong, sharp, and ruthless in front of goal. Last season, he scored goals for fun, 43 in just 50 matches throughout the season.
He helped his team win the league and cup double. He was the star of their season. But there has been some tension behind the scenes.
A release clause of €100 million made things tricky. The player believed he could leave for far less. Around €60 million plus add-ons was expected to be enough.
However, this current club pushed back. Their president said no such deal existed. Even then, he admitted that the striker will likely move this summer.
Now, according to Sacha Tavolieri, Arsenal are in advanced talks with Sporting Lisbon to sign Viktor Gyokores.
As per Tavolieri’s report, the Gunners have already agreed a five-year contract with Gyokeres.
The Swedish forward looks set to become the club’s new number nine.
If the deal gets done, it will be a major statement from Arsenal and a clear message to Manchester United, who were also keen.
For Mikel Arteta, Viktor Gyokeres could be the missing piece, the one to fire Arsenal back to the top of English football.
However, for Ruben Amorim and Manchester United, they will be looking at other targets as the Red Devils face another setback in the transfer market.
