Arsenal continue to build on the momentum generated by their historic 2025-26 campaign.
The club are already working behind the scenes to strengthen several areas of the squad before the new season begins.
Arteta recently hinted that Arsenal needed more quality in attack following their penalty shootout defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
As a result, the club have focused their attention on multiple positions during the summer transfer window.
Arsenal are believed to be targeting a midfielder, a left winger and a striker before they return to competitive action against Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 16.
Although Viktor Gyokeres contributed 21 goals in 55 appearances after arriving for £55 million last summer, Arsenal continue to explore opportunities to add more firepower.
According to journalist Jota Jordi on El Chiringuito, Arsenal have agreed a deal with Atletico Madrid for Julian Alvarez in a move that would see Gyokeres head in the opposite direction.
The Argentine forward has scored 49 goals in 108 appearances for Atletico Madrid. The former Manchester City star established himself as one of the club’s most important players.
Paris Saint-Germain have expressed an interest in signing him. Barcelona and Real Madrid have also entered the race for his signature.
However, Jordi claims Arsenal have moved ahead of their rivals and reached a breakthrough with Atletico Madrid.
The journalist revealed that Atletico chief Gil Marin recently informed Barcelona president Joan Laporta that Alvarez was not available for sale.
Despite that stance, Jordi insists a move to Arsenal is now a “done deal”. The proposed agreement is not a straightforward transfer.
Instead, Arsenal would reportedly pay €50 million and send Gyokeres to Atletico Madrid as part of the arrangement.
For now, attention remains on the World Cup. However, Arsenal appear to be making major progress in their efforts to secure one of the most coveted forwards in European football.
