Some clubs reach a point where standing still simply isn’t an option.
A title challenge fading with a decision to be made about whether the current squad is truly capable of taking the next step.
Unfortunately, Arsenal are at exactly that crossroads right now.
And the answer, it seems, involves a significant reshuffle.
Arsenal ready to sell key stars to land €120m Atletico Madrid striker
According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal are intensifying their pursuit of Julian Alvarez, with the Atletico Madrid striker now considered one of the club’s primary targets ahead of the summer window.
Sources close to the agents industry have informed the outlet that Arsenal’s strategy is focused on building a relationship with the player and his representatives before entering formal negotiations with Atletico Madrid.
The idea being to arrive at the table with leverage already established.
It’s a smart approach.
However, it isn’t going to make the deal easy.
Atletico have publicly maintained that Alvarez isn’t available.
Senior figures at the club have repeatedly stressed his importance to their long-term plans.
He’s scored 18 goals in all competitions this season under Diego Simeone, as the Spanish side look to win the Champions League for the first time.
To fund a move of that scale, Arsenal are understood to be considering moves away for Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.
It’s a significant call.
Both players have contributed during their time at the club.
However, neither has consistently delivered at the level Arsenal require if they’re going to compete at the very top.
The competition for Alvarez isn’t going away either, with top European clubs interested.
Arsenal aren’t waiting for any of them to move first.
Whether Atletico’s resolve holds firm against an exceptional offer remains the question.
But for Arsenal, the direction of travel this summer is becoming clearer by the day.
